Promotion of common interests
People with a chronic illness or a disability have many common interests. Some examples: the right on a good (para)medical treatment or the right on adaptation of houses and on access to buildings and public transport. Equal rights and equality of chances in education and in access to employment are prerequisites for full citizenship. The Dutch Council of the Disabled and the Chronically ill is involved in the promotion of common interests as soon as the interests are beyond those of one particular disability or chronic illness. The demands of the member-organisations determine the commitment of the Council. A national concentration of forces enables the Dutch Council of the Chronically ill and the Disabled to be a discussion partner for authorities, politicians, care-takers, service-providers and industry. The organization strives for alliances and for co-operation with allies.
